The widget isn't showing on my website

You've pasted the embed code, but there's no Help button on your site. This is almost always one of a handful of setup problems, and your browser will usually tell you which.

First: look at the browser console

Open your website, press F12 (or right-click → Inspect) and open the Console tab. Reload the page. The widget writes its own messages there, starting with [IntelliDesk]:

Console message Cause Fix
[IntelliDesk] data-key attribute is required. The script tag has no data-key, or it's empty. Copy the embed code again from IntelliDesk (see below).
[IntelliDesk] Could not find widget script tag. The script was loaded in an unusual way, for example injected by a tag manager without its attributes. Paste the <script> tag directly into your page's HTML instead.
[IntelliDesk] data-context is not valid JSON; ignoring. Your data-context value has a typo. The button still works; fix the JSON (use single quotes around the attribute and double quotes inside).

If there's no [IntelliDesk] message at all, the script isn't running. Work through the checks below.

Check 1: is the code actually on the page?

Right-click the page → View page source and search for widget.js. If it isn't there:

  • Your website builder or CMS may not have saved or published the change. Publish again.
  • The code may only be on some pages. It needs to be on every page that should show the button, usually via a site-wide footer or template.
  • Your site may be serving an old cached copy. Clear your site or CDN cache and reload.

Check 2: is it in the right place?

Paste the code just before </body>, as the setup screen says. The widget adds its button to the page body as soon as it runs; if the script is placed in <head>, it can run before the body exists, and no button appears.

Check 3: is it the right code?

The correct code looks like this, with your own key:

<script src="https://intellidesk.co/widget.js" data-key="idk_..."></script>

To copy it again: Settings → Help Desks → your desk → Channels, under Website contact form. If you see Create website key instead of the code, the desk doesn't have a key yet; a manager of the desk can create one. If you see "This desk has no website key yet. Ask a manager of … to create one here", ask that manager.

Watch out for placeholder text such as idk_YOUR_API_KEY copied from documentation. It looks right but won't work.

Check 4: is your site blocking it?

If your site uses a Content Security Policy, it must allow scripts and connections to https://intellidesk.co (and frames from it, if you use live chat). A blocked script shows a "Content Security Policy" error in the console. Ad and privacy blockers on your own browser can also hide it; try a private window or another browser.

The button shows, but something's still wrong

  • The panel title says "Get Help" instead of your desk's name (and you haven't set data-title): the widget couldn't load its settings. The key has usually been revoked, or your site isn't on the key's allowed websites. Submissions will fail too. See The widget form won't submit: error messages explained.
  • It shows a contact form, but you expected live chat: on a desk where chats are answered by AI, then your team, chat only appears while at least one agent is Online with room for another chat. If the desk's Who answers chats setting is AI only, chat is always on offer. See Live chat: setting it up and answering chats.
  • The button is in the wrong corner or colour: use data-position (bottom-right or bottom-left) and data-color. See The embeddable widget: putting a contact form on your site.

When to contact support

If the code is on the page, before </body>, with a valid key, nothing is blocked, and there's still no button, contact IntelliDesk support. Include your website address and a screenshot of the browser console.
